The 2023 Sports Festival highlights record-breaking performances and innovations in sports categories

By Gabriel Oliveira

Sports practice is essential for physical and emotional development, as well as a pillar of the Beacon school curriculum. The Sports Festival promotes integration, cooperation, and strengthens values such as dialogue and mutual respect. This semester, students from Middle School and High School competed in collective and individual sports in modalities ranging from soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball, athletics, and other sports.

Before the games began, there was an opening ceremony where students wore a T-shirt in the color of their team: green, blue, yellow, and red. Traditionally, all G6 (6 years old) to Y12 (3rd year of High School) classes participate, separated between Y6 (6th grade) to Y12 in the first semester and G6 (6 years old) to Y5 (5th grade) in the second.

From the start, all the students are invited to get involved in the organization behind the games, integrating meetings and suggesting ideas based on their experience as athletes. This role outside the courts, as organizers and supporters, strengthens the sense of community and unites students in a sense of fair play.

This edition was highlighted by a 7th grade (Y7) student surpassing her own record, set last year, jumping 1.44m in height. Another milestone was a 12th grade High School student (Y12) in the sprint running modality, in which he covered 60m in 8.06 seconds. New modalities were also added to the program, such as “foot table” and “teqvolley”. At the end of the two-week event, the red team took home the gold medal for the second consecutive year!

The closing ceremony featured a speech by the pedagogical director emphasizing the sports spirit present during the period and congratulating all athletes. Finally, the students received their respective medals, and the trophy will be with the winning team considering the results of G6 to Y5 students, who will play in the second semester.
