The ESP (English Support Program) teacher, Débora Gerbase, is the co-author of the book “Alfabetização Bíngue” (Bilingual Literacy), which had its launching at the Livraria Cultura on Avenida Paulista. As indicated in the title, the book addresses the theme of literacy in two languages, with a focus on English and Portuguese.
There are many doubts and myths about bilingual education: “What are the benefits of bilingualism? How does it happen?” Answering these and other questions, the writers and teachers of English and Portuguese sought to demystify and explain by approaching theory and practical cases. In addition to the educational methods of this process, the group of 30 authors also discussed the many benefits presented by bilingualism.
By counting on the collaboration not only of teachers but also representatives of the entire teaching staff and parents of children who have undergone bilingual education, the book is recommended for everyone with an interest in the subject. Parents inclined to choose this path, in particular, can benefit from the reflections exposed and based on the background that each author has in the teaching experience process. The book is recommended, in particular, to understand how bilingual literacy happens in the Brazilian context.
