The Thrift Sale is an event for the sale of items in good condition, donated by the school community throughout the year. The profit from sales goes to the “Abrigo Reviver”, a charitable, non-profit civil society which welcomes children and teenagers whose basic rights have been violated or threatened, providing them with shelter, care, protection, and health care.
The 4th edition of the Beacon School Thrift Sale had a novelty: the participation of 7th and 8th graders (Y7 & Y8).
The project began with the communication and presentation of the Thrift Sale’s main goals by the parents who take part in the BCIA (Beacon Community in Action). With the school’s support and partnership, the students could volunteer to participate. They were divided into groups: those responsible for communication; for social media and information posters; for selection of clothes and accessories; for pricing; for music; for the opening presentation; and finally those who explained the social purposes of the event and visited classrooms in order to raise other students’ awareness to participate with donations.
The next step was to promote meetings with volunteer parents to understand about advertising and marketing, project management, and sustainability. The greatest goal was to engage students so that they experience social responsibility.
The sale was an absolute success, and the participation of students generated even greater results!
The event also included the Junior Entrepreneurs, an incentive for Elementary and Middle School students to undertake and learn about financial education, costs, and investments in practice, and also the concepts that involve the creation and sale of products.
