Over the years, Safer Internet Day has been the focus of the online safety calendar. Arising from an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and adopted by the Insafe network as one of its first actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown to be celebrated in approximately several countries around the world. From cyberbullying to social networking and digital identity, Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.
This year, on February 8, the 19th edition of Safer Internet Day (SID) was celebrated with actions across the globe. Once again addressing the theme “Together for a better internet”, the event had the participation of interested people in the subject who gathered together to make the internet a safer and better place for everyone, especially children and young people.
Beacon has always paid special attention to the safety and the conscious use of digital devices and virtual spaces. Besides creating the Codes of Conduct, the school has been continuously addressing the subject in the classes, in lectures for the families, and educational moments.
Safe Internet Day has been discussed with the students of Middle, Elementary and High School. We have been talking about safety, data sharing, the right over one’s image and the importance of everyone’s ethical behavior when making use of digital devices and spaces during EdTech, SEL or tutoring classes.
This year, students from the 6th grade signed the Code of Conduct for the Use of Technological Resources through the Beacon app.
