The Safer Internet Day is an initiative created by the Insafe network in Europe to unite and involve different audiences in awareness-raising activities around the safe, ethical, and responsible use of the Internet in schools, universities, and NGOs. Currently, more than 200 countries engage users and institutions on this date, encouraging the free and safe use of the network.
The EdTech teachers, in partnership with SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) teachers, carried out some actions with students from Elementary and Middle School to make them aware of the proper use of the Internet, virtual dangers, and sharing personal data. As a way to provoke reflection and open dialogue on this very relevant topic, the educators prepared a wall at the school entrance with some questions about how to access the web safely. Post-its were made available for the students to write their ideas, suggestions, or even questions about the use of technology.
During the classes, the students were invited to read and sign the code of conduct, reinforcing the importance of ethical and citizen use of the Web and helping children and teenagers to know how to protect themselves while connected.
The Safe Internet theme will be reinforced throughout the school year in the Edtech classes. Guidance to families regarding the control of their children’s devices is also on the agenda, in addition to events and lectures that are being planned to keep the theme present for the students, having families as support in this prevention.
