In 2020, the 8th grade (Y8) classes participated in a volunteer project aiming to collaborate with the learning process of public school students. They took on the role of tutors in the subjects of Mathematics, History, Geography, Portuguese and English, according to their preference.
By the end of the year, more students volunteered to participate and chose a name for the action – Projeto Primavera. The tutors will be from Middle School (Grades 7 to 9 – Y7 to Y9) in this new phase.
However, the project now offers online tutoring in the same subjects to the Beacon employee’s children, ages 9 to 17, enrolled in public schools. Tutors will have the support and supervision of our faculty members throughout the process.
The founding partner and director of Beacon, Luciana Leite, presented the Projeto Primavera to employees and invited them to enroll their children. She emphasized that the action intends to minimize the damage caused by the pandemic, as education was heavily affected in the last year. The school will lend Chromebooks to registered students who wish to have support.
Although each tutor has more than one student, the classes will be individual at first, so the meetings are more fruitful and focused on the interests and needs of each one.
The pedagogical team is committed and proud of the project. Teachers and coordinators were surprised by the number of students who expressed a desire to volunteer and employees who were readily interested in enrolling their children.
