In the 1st year of High School (Y10), students lead a solidarity action to collect food, clothes, and books donations to help people in need due to the pandemic. The food will go to the Anglicana Morumbi Creche, in the Paraisópolis Community. Creche Anglicana Morumbi and Paraisópolis Community will receive the food donations. The clothes will go to the Associação Beneficente Santa Fé, which welcomes children who are victims of abuse. The books will be donated to the Leve História movement, which brings literature to children and young people of low-income families.
To engage the school community in this campaign, students wrote a letter to be sent to parents of all grade levels.
“We all know and observe how the Covid-19 pandemic has been changing our lives since March 2020. It has had extremely undesirable impacts: families with incomes between 0 and 2 minimum wages are 20% more impacted by the pandemic than other families. In 2021, Brazil might register an unemployment rate of 14.2%, which corresponds to more than 14 million Brazilians. Children and teenagers have been suffering from the environment created by the strict rules of isolation and difficulties in distance education. However, at Beacon, we have the identity and capacity to strengthen the bonds that unite us as a community, especially in such difficult times. Inspired by this, we Y10 students are happy to announce the “BeaCommunity” project, whose slogan is “Our Community. Our Responsibility”. We will collect donations of non-perishable food, children’s books, and clothing in this first act. However, this is not a common campaign: whoever participates will help in art installations, using their donations as raw material! At the end of the campaign, the art installations will be photographed. Due to the pandemic, donations will be sent to institutions that help people in situations of need. This act will be the first of many! Everyone is invited to show the true spirit of our school and exercise the responsibility to help our community in this process! We count on everyone’s participation. ” (Y10 students)
We are very proud of our students’ commitment and hope the community can keep on contributing!
