The inaugural Café & Educação in 2021 featured chef Morena Leite, from Capim Santo, who is responsible for the food on the Campus.
Morena brought her values about food in an honest and lively conversation, the main characteristics of the menu offered by Beacon, choice, and preparation of food. In addition, she talked about the training of our educators to assist in accepting and tasting new foods with flavors and textures that are often unknown.
Recognizing that as an IB school, we give the students agency, voice, and empowerment, Morena announced she would use class representatives to evaluate the lunch and snack menus with herself and her partner and nutritionist. The chef also proposed to increase visits to the classrooms to get feedback and suggestions from the students about the food offered.
Parents participated, bringing their questions, which Morena fully clarified and answered. In the end, the participants concluded that a healthy and balanced diet is linked to visual pleasure and to try new foods with those that are better known and already accepted by children and young people.
