In the third edition of Café & Educação by the University and Career Counseling department, the department coordinator, Lucas Sousa, discussed the concept of “best fit” in choosing higher education institutions with school families. This criterion, widely accepted in the field of university counseling, stipulates that the selection of one or more universities during the application process should take into account each student’s profile.
This includes their expectations, family context, academic and extracurricular achievements, the context of the desired institution (location, climate, methodology, employability, among others), the financial reality of each student, and other variables.
The “best fit” concept, therefore, advocates that each student seeks an institution compatible with their personality, needs, and expectations, a place where they feel comfortable and identified. Anonymous cases were analyzed interactively with families, considering the profiles of different students and the universities they enrolled in.
Events like these are important for families and schools to exchange information and act in a coordinated manner during this transition process from basic education to higher education.
