After a year marked by difficulties and adaptations, the students of the 2020 “Beija-flor” Program (intensive English course) had a virtual celebration to close this phase.
The students completed the training course, where they left from scratch, without knowing any English at the beginning of the year up to the intermediate level. Today, they can communicate in English without having to translate into Portuguese most of the time.
Our partner English school, Day by Day, together with its staff members, attended the meeting with parents, students, and teachers of the Program. The students were able to present a “jogral” – a way of reciting poems or songs by a choir, alternating between singing and speaking – which they rehearsed during the past months.
Eleven students completed the “Beija-Flor” Program and received a diploma from the English course. Three were granted a scholarship at Beacon to start the 6th grade (Y6) next year.
