Beacon seals new partnership with a waste management company

By Bruna Cronfli

Attentive to environmental issues and committed to innovations that will lead to a better future, Beacon has signed a partnership with Musa, a company that is committed to providing a more responsible destination for the waste we produce. In addition, we are also involved in the constant training of students, educators, and employees.

Most waste collection companies transport waste to dumps or landfills, both of which are open air and have great environmental impacts. Poor waste management generates contamination that is invisible to our eyes, such as the proliferation of viruses and bacteria, as well as sources of vectors, such as dengue and other diseases.

Beacon, in partnership with Reconectta, decided to rethink a more sustainable way to take care of the waste produced at school. This is how they learned about the work of Muse, a company that manages waste through the intelligent use of technology and a new way of doing business, ensuring the economic, social, and environmental subsistence of our planet.

The first step was to survey the amount of waste containers we had in each of our units and label them in a clear and organized manner, indicating the type of waste. Next, the operational team went through training to understand the new waste separation and to engage the team. In addition to the organic and recyclable waste, we started to separate the rejected waste.

Part of the organic waste is composted in the worm houses in each of the units: Berlioz, Villa, and Campus. The rest is composted externally, where it is transformed into fertilizer and sold in the market. The recyclable waste goes to sorting centers, where it is carefully separated and then sent to processing plants to become new raw materials for manufacturing. The rejects go to co-processing plants, where they are transformed into energy for construction.

We are very happy about this achievement and confident that this action is another opportunity to deepen the discussions about one of the main current socio-environmental challenges. We seek to improve and ensure a more sustainable planet for us and the next generations.
