The Beacon Campus’s architectural design achieved the third position in the ArchDaily Brasil Obra do Ano 2020 Prize.
The finalists’ list included 15 different buildings, from cultural, educational, and public spaces projects, to high-end residences and temporary facilities. The list included ten Brazilian projects and five Portuguese ones.
The award, which had its first edition in 2017, aims to recognize the most relevant projects built in Portuguese-speaking countries. Apart from that, the award celebrates the best of Lusophone architecture. This year, the ArchDaily website allowed its own readers to recognize and reward the finalists.
The proposal developed for the Beacon Campus starts from the idea of making full use of the heritage building, located in an old industrial neighborhood, and promoting learning through architectural design, which puts the student in contact with different forms and materials. After having acquired this knowledge, students’ intervention transformed the space. A place that represents action and a source of inspiration.
The physical space acts as a third educator, placing the student at the center and making them reflect on the essential values of the school’s culture. These are environments for creation, research, exploration, and meetings, adapted to the needs of each age group, and welcomes individual and collective work in constant construction and improvement.
Beacon is proud of their achievement. We would like to congratulate Andrade Morettin and GOAA (Gusmão Otero Arquitetos Associados) for developing and creating the Campus!
