Arraial 2021 maintains traditions respecting protocols

By Bruna Cronfli

Traditionally, the Arraial da Beacon is considered one of the school’s biggest and most important events. Full of meaning, learning, music, and games, the festivity brings joy, celebration, and knowledge to our community.

This year was no different! Despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic, we remained convinced of valuing our Brazilian roots, offering a rich cultural repertoire to all age groups, from G2 to Y10.

Throughout May, students were exposed to various activities related to June themes, such as storytelling in oral tradition, preparation of typical recipes, producing flags and other types of decoration, exposure to popular rhythms, instruments, and dances. In addition, the original character of the Arraial da Beacon is to celebrate a Brazilian composer, performer, movement, or musical genre every year. In 2021, we chose Jackson do Pandeiro, an important instrumentalist, composer, and singer who recorded a series of forrós and sambas and helped popularize the northeastern culture.

This time the commemoration was entirely dedicated to the students, during the face-to-face class period and following health protocols. During June week, students were able to perform a dance presentation to the sound of Jackson do Pandeiro, with another group as spectators. Dressed in typical costumes, they participated in fun moments with the traditional “Pescaria,” “Boca do Caipira,” “Rabo no Burro,” among other games. All this, of course, combined with a snack with delicious typical dishes prepared by our suppliers Capim Santo and Sodexo, served in individual portions, respecting sanitary guidelines.

And, as always, we continue to seek a collective and affectionate look, with more empathy and love for others. We reiterate some of our core values: Solidarity and Ethical Awareness through the social actions of the party. Using the visibility of the event, students researched institutions to donate to and chose Instituto Este LAR, in Alagoa Grande – PB, the hometown of the honored Jackson do Pandeiro. The goal was to raise R$30,000 to help the NGO promote vocational education, health, and family support for people in poverty and at risk. Thanks to a united school community, the donations exceeded the amount expected, and we donated R$ 32 thousand.

The Arraial is an excellent opportunity for learning and cultural enrichment, in addition to promoting closer ties and helping to consolidate a significant integration that enables socio-affective development.
