Between June and July, the 7th-grade students (Y7) traveled to Argentina, where they got to know the cities of Rosario and Buenos Aires. This was the first international trip after the most restrictive phase of the pandemic. Cherishing the essence of being a Brazilian school with an international education, Beacon joined other schools in this exchange program. The period was marked by the students’ immersion in the Argentine culture and by the improvement of their Spanish.
The routine was divided between school activities in the morning and cultural activities in the afternoon. Besides its excellent academic level and infrastructure, Colegio Parque España has links with the Ministry of Education of the Province of Santa Fe and with the Ministry of Education and Professional Training of Spain. The teaching staff also has a multicultural composition, made up of educators from both countries and chosen through competitive examinations.
The proposal to the students was based on four learning pillars: knowing, doing, coexisting, and being. Integrated with each other, the stages sought to provide the students with an active understanding of the context in which they found themselves. The educational activities followed an interdisciplinary proposal, covering themes related to Geography as well as Physical Education. The students prepared a notebook about the Field Trip, which was later displayed at the Beacon Campus unit.
Buenos Aires is the capital and the largest city of Argentina in South America, second only to São Paulo, whose metropolitan area exceeds its own. Rosario stands out for its culture, evident in the neoclassical architecture preserved for centuries. The environment allowed the students to develop their language skills as well as understand their cultural context. During their visits, the students visited the City Hall, the Parana River, El Círculo Theater, and the Aquarium.
