The Football World Cup engages children and teenagers in ways that go far beyond the matches themselves. Through sticker collecting, cheering for teams, and learning about different countries and athletes, the event becomes an opportunity to expand cultural awareness and explore topics such as identity, belonging, diversity, and multicultural coexistence. According to Victor Pignotti Maielo, Head of Physical Education and High School Teacher at Beacon School, major sporting events also support socio-emotional development, helping students navigate challenges, frustrations, and achievements in a safe and educational environment.
In addition, Physical Education classes can connect students with sports and games from different cultures, valuing both globally recognized sports and Brazilian and Indigenous traditions. This broadens students’ understanding of the world and of themselves.
