Year 6 students build assistive devices for people with disabilities

The Year 6 students  were challenged to develop assistive devices that make daily life more accessible for people with disabilities. Throughout the lessons, they investigated the needs of different groups within the disability community, came up with creative ideas, and built functional prototypes. The unit is guided by the principles of design thinking, encouraging critical thinking, empathy, and collaboration. Students go through all stages of the process: research, sketching, testing, and refinement based on feedback, always focusing on innovative and inclusive solutions. Additionally, they learned to document their findings, prepare a final exhibition, and reflect on their learning journey. The project aims to provide a hands-on and transformative experience, combining technology and social impact, and preparing students to tackle real-world challenges in an ethical, creative, and thoughtful way.
