At the Café & Educação event led by the Elementary School Coordination team, our educators brought up issues related to learning and had the participants reflect on how students learn best, whether they think they are good at what they do, and if they have ever stopped to think about how they learn.
They discussed the intrinsic relationship between lifelong learning, inquiry, and the concept of agency, showing how all of this is mediated by teachers with students, explaining the differentiation in learning and support offered to each student, and how it is done in the classroom.
The portfolio was also discussed as a way of reporting on learning and as an important metacognitive tool that reaches different levels of complexity as children grow.
They also explained the importance of the 3-Way Conferences, meetings between families, students, and teachers, which bring reflection on the appreciation and recognition of the learning journey, a fundamental key to meaningful school education and to life.
Filled with practical examples and testimonials from the students, the families were able to understand that learning is not and never will be a linear process, but that it moves the students to develop themselves in a unique way and that each one of them is an agent on this path.
