Beacon hosts foreign universities

By Gabriel Oliveira

Representatives from prestigious universities abroad visited the 9th grade (Y9) and High School students to talk about their courses and ask questions about their academic future in these institutions. The meetings took place in the new building through a friendly talk, where students were able to interact spontaneously with the speakers.

Study Melbourne visited Beacon to tell about the possible ways of entering the universities in Victoria, Australia, including the University of Melbourne, the first in the Australian ranking. Next, Istituto Marangoni talked about the courses in Design, Fashion, and Art offered in its schools in Miami (USA), Milan (Italy), Paris (France), London (UK), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), and Shanghai (China). Full Sail University provided more details about the “Creativity Marathon”, an initiative where high school students from all over the world are invited to solve one or more questions raised by UNESCO through an audiovisual production. We now await a visit from the University of Toronto, New York University, Bocconi University, and Constructor University.

Along with the IB curriculum and the first high school class graduating in 2023, Beacon has become increasingly present on the radar of universities abroad. In addition to Career Day and U-Day, some of these institutions have returned to address new lectures. A key part of the selection process is the degree of interest shown and the relationship students build with the university during this transition from high school to college. Keeping this in mind, students were organized to attend and interact freely with representatives from the institutions according to their interests and aptitudes.

The work done through University and Career Counseling may be considered a bridge between our students and their chosen universities. These lectures represent excellent opportunities for them to get to know the institutions better and broaden their repertoires, contributing to the decision of which one to apply to. As Beacon has shown a positive projection, the expectation is that the presence of representatives will increase even more in the coming years.
