Beacon School, together with a group of schools with an international curriculum, participated in the Third Simulation of the United Nations at St. Nicholas School (III Municks), an initiative that gives participants the opportunity to debate, in English, current issues of historical relevance. At the event, students Pedro M. and Maria D. were awarded “Best Speaker” in the Security Committee, and “Oustanding Press” in the Press Committee, respectively.
Municks is an event that aims to inspire young people to be spokespersons for delegations from different countries in order to develop future leaders with a broad vision of world reality for the good of society. Besides providing socialization, the action also gives students the opportunity to exercise skills such as teamwork, public speaking, problem-solving, and resilience.
This year, the focus of the III Municks was the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UN), which aims to raise awareness about sustainability and, hence, prepare the planet for future generations. The current theme also enables future leaders to start acting for a better environmental and social scenario for themselves and for the next generations.
In all, there were seven in-person committees, in addition to the Press Committee, which are:
Junior
Senior
These committees are essential to the event because they are part of the traditional UN councils and address important current issues, ensuring a meaningful conference.
We congratulate students Pedro M. and Maria D. for the awards received at the event.
