Extended Day exhibit explores creativity, the five senses, and the values of nature

By Brayan Felippe

The Extended Day students from all units – Campus, Villa, and Berlioz – were encouraged to use their creativity to develop works throughout the semester. To close the year, their families were invited to attend the exhibitions lovingly prepared by the children and educators.

At Berlioz, nature was the inspiration for an invitation to experiment. At the Villa, visitors explored the five senses and were able to look through objects, touch and smell the unknown, and try new flavors. The students of Campus exhibited their mandalas, created from geometric patterns.

The mandalas were assembled not only to enhance the students’ creativity but also to promote reflection and concentration, giving everyone a feeling of tranquility. Colored wool, toothpicks of different sizes, geometric shapes, and, of course, imagination were used.

The 4 and 5-year-old students explored the five senses and were able to reflect on each of them separately, which was a great opportunity to increase their awareness about their own bodies. The curiosity of the children and also of the families that visited the exhibition was instigated with every experience, from looking through objects to touching and smelling the unknown and exploring new flavors.

The project of the Berlioz unit” Natureza que Somos”, consisted in arousing interest in the natural elements. The children’s sensitive gaze was sharpened from the beginning of the year, expanding their knowledge of nature in its various forms, observing birds, flowers, insects, and the food generated on the earth. The exhibition was an experimentation of the senses and an awakening of the child-nature existing in each visitor present at the exhibition.

The Extended Day biannual art exhibitions are opportunities for families to experience some of the work done by the students during after-school hours.
