Due to this new reality and following current demands, ‘Projeto Jatobá’ has decided to maintain the English classes, offering online classes with the same workload as the face-to-face ones. Beacon suggested loaning laptops so that students could follow the course from home. The students attend classes, watch videos and complete tasks, discussing them in groups.
Projeto Jatobá is a social initiative that seeks to identify young talents from public schools and provide them with the opportunity to improve their academic and personal knowledge through two programs: Beija-Flor and Bolsa Jatobá.
Twelve students, passionate about learning, with an excellent position in school, were selected at the end of last year to take an intensive English course and tutoring in mathematics and Portuguese throughout 2020 at Beacon School. We call this initiative the Beija-Flor program. At the end of this stage, at least two students who have an exceptional performance will be awarded a scholarship at Beacon, with all expenses related to the course covered, from the 6th year of Middle School to the 3rd year of High School.
In parallel to this program, the six current scholarship students selected in previous years continue to attend classes, participating in Beacon’s Distance Learning Plan. They are all engaged and motivated to learn.
