G2 and G3 Adaptation period

When arriving in the unknown space, holding hands firmly with their parents, the attentive and suspicious looks “photograph” the environment searching for references and familiarity. The adaptation period of the little ones who are kicking off their school life has as a basic premise the welcoming gradually and consistently so that each child progressively gains confidence in the ability to create and venture beyond the family.

The environment, carefully prepared to instigate and awaken the investigative eye, prioritizing play as an essential resource of the process, invites educators to the universe of imagination. Separating from parents is not an easy task, and insecurity, natural and a standard part of this period, is often expressed through crying – a primary communication resource. Therefore, the moment is delicate and demands that trust in the school be established by both parents and children.

The lap, the soap bubbles, the sand cakes. A walk through the school, a song by your ear, a game in the water. Building emotional bonds is a process. Every loving gesture, every word directed precisely to that child. “Julia likes dolls a lot and João… Ah, João stops crying right away when he sees a car going down the ramp!”

Tears slowly give way to shy smiles, and the hands upon the teachers’ legs are a sign of a vote of confidence. Day by day, the steps are getting steadier towards the classroom and shorter from family members’ farewells. Being part of a new social group is a big step towards autonomy!
