Y4 students develop a website dedicated to Roald Dahl

This year, Year 4 students (Y4) read the book “The Witches” as their first work in Shared Reading classes. The fun, excitement, and entertainment that the story provided encouraged everyone so much that they created posters, texts, drawings, and even a website! The students also explored elements of the author’s narrative and had the opportunity to develop their own stories, giving sequences to the original. And, thus, deepening their knowledge of the life and work of Roald Dahl.

In addition to the assignments, students read some articles and watched videos about Roald Dahl and some of his work during shared reading classes. Later, the children collaboratively investigated more specific issues related to some interesting facts about their life and work. They shared their findings and produced videos using the Flip Grid platform individually.

The students’ involvement throughout the process and the production of a series of works that the teachers, collaboratively with the entire Y4, proposed creating a website to share their findings with the Beacon community.

As they designed the project to go online during Literary Week, a committee was created, during study groups, to work on the layout, organization, production of texts, revision, among others. The participants were volunteer students from all Y4 classes, and they took the initiative to suggest improvements to the website, divided into interest groups and worked on their ideas. They developed the website in the form of Padlets with games, drawings and stories, image and video banks, recommendations on books, and reading workshops for friends.
