Guitar teacher participates in honor of the victims of enforced disappearance

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in partnership with “Playing for Change”, developed a project in honor of the victims of enforced disappearance. The published material contains testimonials from family members and the performance of the song “Hasta la Raiz”, by Natalia Lafourcade, with the participation of musicians from different countries. Among these musicians is Beacon’s Optional Activities guitar teacher, João Francisco Botosso.

For the elaboration of the musical arrangement, the producers wanted the presence of the “cavaquinho” as a genuinely Brazilian instrument. The production team contacted Gustavo Kurlat, an Argentine musician who has lived in Brazil for many years. Gustavo, who is the author of works recognized nationally and abroad, forwarded the invitation to our teacher João Francisco Botosso.

For the performance, each musician sent an audio and video recording of their performance, based on a previous musical reference. “Playing for Change” has long been noted for this type of video clip production, uniting musicians from several backgrounds in a single song.

In Latin America, dozens of people disappear daily for causes related to armed conflicts, violence, migration, natural disasters, among others. Some of their families have not heard from their loved ones for over 20 years.

The project aims to express solidarity through music with those who face the deep and universal feeling of losing a loved one and contributes by giving more visibility to the theme.
