For the 2nd Consecutive Year, Beacon hosts Women’s Soccer Camp – “Donas da Rua”

Beacon hosted the 5th Women’s Soccer Camp – “Donas da Rua”, the only Soccer Camp exclusively for girls that aims to promote women’s soccer and encourage respected and equal opportunities.

Organized by “Pelado Real Futebol Clube” and supported by “Mauricio de Sousa Produções”, the project “Donas da Rua” has a partnership with UN Women, United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women. UN Women, among other issues, works to eliminate discrimination against women and girls and to achieve gender equality as partners and beneficiaries of the development, human rights, humanitarian action, peace and safety.

In 1963, Mônica debuted in “Cebolinha’s” comic strip published in a newspaper called “Folha da Manhã”, known as “Folha de S.Paulo” nowadays. In her first appearance, she already showed that girls could have their space, without following any beauty standards, to own the street. At that time, just a few women graduated from University. Furthermore, just a few jobs were considered “suitable” for them: teacher, nurse, flight attendant… In sports, the same pattern: women’s soccer was prohibited in Brazil between 1941 and 1981 (40 years). Since then, things changed, but there are still many barriers for girls to overcome and have full access to their rights and the opportunities they dream of.

Beacon was pleased to host the event for the 2nd consecutive year and invite 1st to 8th graders to participate in the Soccer Camp. The event had three days of soccer theory and practice activities, aiming at developing relevant skills and knowledge for life and also an opportunity to make new friends.
