Sustainability: Do you know the SDGs?

Inspired by the Millennium Development Goals and officially created in 2015 by the UN, the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are an important sustainability agenda that approaches the main socio-environmental challenges nowadays. There are 17 global goals, inspiring and ambitious ones, that must be implemented by all countries during the next 15 years, by 2030.

The concern with present and future generations has never been more in the spotlight, as the environmental consequences are increasingly closer and more visible. We can no longer be absent from our co-responsibility and live without considering the socio-environmental impacts resulting from our production and consumption methods nowadays. We need to rethink our habits, change our attitudes, create new solutions on the behalf of collectivity and life.

Within this vision, the school plays an important role in the development of leading and critical young people, citizens who understand the complexity of the impacts of their actions, and their collaborative potential to build a more fair and sustainable society.

In this context, the SDGs can be an interesting tool to guide the priority discussions and actions within the school and the community, inspiring, strengthening and connecting the pedagogical projects with the real challenges of today. Although challenging, the work with SDGs favors interdisciplinarity and participatory processes, essential elements for the creation of truly meaningful and inspiring projects.
