Aware of the parents’ needs and aiming at maintaining the family-school partnership, Beacon frequently invites specialists to the Conference Cycle.
We invited the psychologist Tiago Tamborini to approach the theme “Interaction and Sociability”. With the end of childhood and the beginning of adolescence, children go through a phase of changes, ranging from their preferences and ways of relating to physical changes. In this phase, teenagers begin to question their self-image, as well as their parents and friends, culminating in controversial feelings and mood swings. Sadness, aggressiveness, fear and discoveries emerge in their lives and require a new posture from their family members.
Tiago started the lecture listening to parents’ doubts and concerns. Some themes such as sexuality, resilience, limits of autonomy, profiles on social media and siblings competition emerged and were discussed throughout the event. The speaker demystified some taboos, gave some guidance on ways to foster communication between parents and children, as well as to mitigate the parents’ guilt feelings. By affirming that most families go through the same difficulties, since the transgression, for example, is part of adolescence, Tiago reassured and guided the public, thus promoting a more positive attitude with young people.
