Inspiring Lecture Marks the Beginning of Beacon’s School Year

Aiming at promoting reflection, Beacon invited its staff to the talk “What is impossible?”. The event brought Thais Pegoraro, the Brazilian record-holder of the Seven Summits Project of rock and ice climbing of the highest mountains of each continent.

Thais explained the project and what it involves both in terms of physical and mental preparation. She brought up the perception of planning and overcoming personal challenges, from her difficulty in training to her fear of heights.

Her approach surrounding the theme made it possible to relate mountain obstacles with those present daily in our lives. As an example, we could mention the true meaning of teamwork and the development of skills such as focus and attention, creativity and resilience.

Other topics including fear, failure, dreams, motivation, humility, and solidarity were also raised during the conference. Thais developed a reflection upon the capacity to overcome a challenge and how each individual is responsible for its outcome through their own attitudes.

Beacon’s staff came to a conclusion that climbing a high mountain is like the course of life: we need to start off our journey as an old person – slowly and wisely – and end it as one who is young – excited and energized by the accomplishment.
