To enrich the Festa Junina, the Y2 students had an experience with Mestre Zabumbeiro João Mário Machado, an advocate and defender of the traditional Samba de Bumbo groups from São Paulo. Aligned with the Home Sweet Home Research Unit, the Mestre shared a bit of the historical context of the Cururuquara neighborhood and how the Black population was gradually expelled from that region. João Mário also explained how Samba de Bumbo developed into a cultural symbol of resistance in that area.
