Y1 students visit Fazenda Santa Adelaide

As part of the Unit of Inquiry “Schools,” the Year 1 students visited Fazenda Santa Adelaide, a space that not only cultivates organic food but also hosts a school dedicated to the local community and promotes learning about sustainable practices.

During the visit, the children participated in a guided tour and observed how a school functions in a rural setting, comparing its structure and routine with those at Beacon. Applying their research skills, they interviewed staff members to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of some team members at the school. The visit also revisited concepts from the previous unit, “Play,” by offering the children new ways to play in an open, natural environment. The outdoor activities stimulated creativity and encouraged meaningful interactions with natural elements.

As a bridge to the upcoming Unit of Inquiry, “Waste,” the experience at the farm provided the students with firsthand exposure to responsible waste management practices, encouraging them to reflect on the necessary care to maintain a sustainable, shared space and the importance of caring for nature for overall well-being.
