Leonardo Casal Santos, subprefect of Lapa, visited our school. The Campus, located in Vila Leopoldina, is a district owned by the subprefecture and managed by him.
Leonardo was welcomed by 8th graders (Y8), who performed a touching presentation with the guitar, keyboard, and voice to greet him. The 5th graders (Y5) are studying the Unit of Inquiry “Politics” and prepared questions to deepen their knowledge regarding the subject.
The students were engaged and curious during the interview. They asked about some concerns, such as garbage, how a subprefect is elected and job duties, security, among others. Leonardo explained what he thinks about collectivity, from a caretaking perspective, but remembering the importance of thinking about the citizen’s individuality and how challenging are all the policies that refer to the human being. He also spoke about his personal history to reach this position and talked about the criteria to select a mayor.
The subprefect also explained how he directs the complaints and requests and their referral. The students were surprised to know that he has a staff located throughout the region and counts with the help of the residents, through social media and close contact. Leonardo also said that as a government employee, he is available in his office to personally assist citizens.
The 5th grades benefited greatly from this experience, as they had the opportunity to clarify doubts regarding the lines of investigation mapped throughout the current Unit.
