STEAM Fair & Art Expo

Beacon School has research as one of the pillars that supports the pedagogical project for all educational segments. The movement of interrogating the world around us opens the path of investigation. Observing, experimenting, seeking and processing data, knowing and reflecting upon concepts and creating new knowledge are processes that are articulated and provide meaningful learning. What started as an event focused on the Natural Sciences area, gained new ground. As we understand that investigative processes are present in all areas of knowledge, that human questionings and inquiries demand a transdisciplinary approach, we expanded the project to the first Beacon’s STEAM FAIR & ART EXPO.

STEAM, an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics, revealed itself to be the wide space in which our students could make their inquiries and actively participate in journeys, making choices, creating dialogues, and building answers to the questions they proposed.

The event brought together the collective exhibition of investigations carried out by the students of Elementary School, posters and models of research projects of Middle School and High School. Due to security protocols, this edition hosted only the students.

Beacon’s Visual Arts Show, a virtual exhibition. It encouraged G6 to Y5 students to answer the question “What do you want to show?” by promoting reflection on the social role of artists, the sense of having their works exhibited, and the place of art in our city. We understand that, as important as experimenting with materialities, developing creativity and expanding the repertoire, getting to know the work of different artists, the act of socializing the art production completes and brings new meaning to the work made in the atelier. With this simple and individual question in mind, it was possible to think about the reasons that lead artists to exhibit their works, where art belongs to in our city, and what the social role of the artist’s work is.

The set revealed the richness of the production and placed students as protagonists in the various areas of knowledge. We opted for an online exhibition to give equal opportunities to students who attended classes in the face-to-face or remote model.
