“Beija-Flor” Program continues online during pandemic

The new world scenario brought enormous challenges to the surface, and even in the face of current demands, Beacon could not give up the “ Beija-Flor” Program, as we believe that education has the role of dealing with human concerns and solidarity.

With this in mind, we are maintaining English classes in partnership with Day by Day and reinforcement classes of Portuguese with Beacon teachers. Since the beginning, students from the program have been taking online classes, with the same course load of on-site classes. They attend classes and watch videos, as well as debate in groups about the proposed activities and exercises.

Students are following the curricular planning and may complete the program by the end of the year. Therefore, in 2021 at least two students who present exceptional performance will be granted a Jatobá Scholarship to study at Beacon until the end of High School.

Classes are paying off and are being developed so that students are able to make the most of this opportunity.

Due to the pandemic, several foreign publishers, such as Oxford, provided access to their online books collection. So every weekend, students must access the platform and choose to read the book through a video with subtitles, so that they can develop reading and listening skills at the same time. In the following week, they develop an activity related to the chosen story.

“It is possible to highlight that the level of students’ performance is increasing and that they are prioritizing learning, especially during intensive English classes”, comments Geruza Hasler, coordinator of the “Programa Jatobá” at Beacon.
