As a closure of the first Unit of Inquiry “Living Bodies” of G5 (5 years old), the children visited the space Taste of Farm.
The investigation, which began in February, brought up discussions about topics such as the human body, organs, care, and needs. Among the subjects studied, the children learned about how good nutrition and healthy habits can improve people’s quality of life.
“Sabor de Fazenda” is an organic nursery that produces several species of 100% organic seedlings of herbs, spices, vegetables, and non-conventional food plants (PANC). Through “Projeto Dedinho Verde”, the children were able to learn the value and benefits of each plant and how to make their herb garden.
The visit started at the herb nursery (the seedbeds), where they followed the step-by-step growth of the plants, from germination to the adult plant. Next, they moved on to the Garden of the Senses. There they were able to explore the aromas, textures, and colors of the aromatic herbs, as well as learn some curiosities about each species.
Through games, the children were able to learn about the worm farm and the importance of garden animals to recycle organic waste and get in touch with some concepts, such as organic agriculture, composting, and recycling organic waste.
To finish, they had the opportunity to enjoy a special snack prepared on-site, with herbs from the garden. The children also planted a seedling to take home, reusing PET bottles.
The environmental education and gardening project invited the children from G5 to rethink a more harmonious coexistence with their surroundings through playful, practical, and fun experiences that made them aware of the importance of respecting and preserving the environment.
