Beacon’s Director participates in a “Live” with Abepar on the current scenario of schools

Director Maria Eduarda Sawaya participated in the first edition of the “Live” panel  of Abepar, an association of private schools of excellence in São Paulo, created to disseminate sound pedagogical and management practices. With the theme “Covid-19: what Science reveals about the reopening of schools”, the virtual meeting presented the study led by Dr. Wanderson Oliveira and Dr. Fábio Jung on the reopening of schools, and mediated by Abepar’s director, Arthur Fonseca Filho.

The meeting aimed at promoting an analysis about health, safety and well-being issues of Brazilian children and teenagers, based on a comprehensive proposal on the theme.

During the “Live”, issues regarding the concerns that came up with the news about the resumption of on-site classes were addressed. Are schools safe environments? What are the necessary protocols for a safe return for both teachers and students? Besides answering these and other questions, a study describing the socioeconomic and educational impacts of the pandemic was also presented.

One of the focal points of the debate was to look at the current scenario, not only regarding the health area, but also the social issue. Participants reflected on the situation of children and teenagers who are socially vulnerable.

Our director spoke about the process of raising awareness in society to understand that education is, indeed, an essential service and that it is extremely important that parents and guardians are engaged during the transition to the reopening of schools.

Maria Eduarda closes the “Live” talking about the student protagonist and how they can be the transmitter of information about the pandemic, including health protocols.
