This month’s “Café & Educação” was focused on the math literacy of Elementary School – Final Series. The event was led by our Mathematics advisor, Cristiane Chica, Master in Communication Sciences from USP, Bachelor and Degree in Mathematics from PUC, besides being 25 years experienced in the area of education with teacher training. Cristiane is also co-author of math textbooks for Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and books for teachers. She works as a pedagogical manager for Grupo Mathema, coordinating continuing education projects and developing materials for students and teachers in Mathematics.
Cristiane presented the curriculum alignment based on the BNCC (Common National Curriculum Base), in addition to sharing important components of the IB, such as the value of the investigative process and the way to solve math questions. The advisor talked about the solutions panel that is used in several series at Beacon and which consists of valuing the critical thinking process and doing activities in innovative ways.
The conversation also involved subjects such as research related to the pandemic and the brain, and especially the matters of possible lags brought about in the math field. Cristiane brought solutions that Beacon proposed, close monitoring by the student support team, for example, and an adjustment of learning expectations supervised by the advisor and a periodic evaluation process.
In a relaxed chat, she talked about questions about the general competences of the area and how Math is present in daily activities. In addition, examples of activities done in each age group were presented, answering questions and solving everyone’s curiosity.
