Beacon’s families lead social book collection project

By Bruna Cronfli

This year, due to the pandemic, our traditional Beacon Book Fair has not happened. Because of that, BCIA Cultural Actions Team (Beacon Community in Action) joined forces to collect books and support a very special project, “Leve História”.

Beacon’s families were invited to donate books, in good condition, which were collected through boxes set at the entrance of Campus and Villa units. Parents were also asked to write a dedication note for the new intended book readers.

Furthermore, some students had the initiative to record videos where they spoke about their love for reading, thus promoting everyone’s engagement in the campaign. The videos were published in the BCIA’s social networks and also shared on each Beacon grades’ contact group. Students shared with us the reasons they like to read books before sleeping, some of them out loud, and others underlining the text.

The two-week social action raised more than 700 books. The copies were sorted by age group and organized by volunteer parents and Beacon’s librarians. The books were sent to the awarded school, “Pedro Moreira Matos”.

Children’s literature, through a playful reading, contributes to the interpretation of emotional content, cultural values, ethical and social teachings. We love books!
