Before the winter vacation, Beacon’s faculty team participated in 20-hour training workshops promoted by IB leaders.
The IB is implementing a new PYP concept called “Agency”, aiming at giving prominence to students, teachers and community in general. For this reason, the training sessions were chosen to meet the needs of each segment.
The proposal included teachers from Early Childhood Education with the theme: “Making the PYP Happen in the Early Years: Implementing Agency”. For Elementary School, on the other hand, the theme was: “Approaches to Learning”. Finally, the specialists (Art, Physical Education, Music, and Technology) had: “Transdisciplinary Learning for Subject Specialists”.
For junior teachers, an 8-hour training session was given by IB leader Laura Falsztyn, introducing the basics of the new concept “Agency”.
This end of semester was very significant, as the faculty team was able to reflect on practices, assimilate new concepts, and have some time of collective study, upon which the narratives of the second semester will be based.
Beacon believes in the professional development of its staff and spares no effort to promote these occasions. It was a great opportunity to start the holidays with new sources of inspiration to build an ever-more connected school, one which is always concerned with its students’ education.
