In this Café & Educação session, the MYP and DP coordinators discussed the different types of academic dishonesty and how to reduce its occurrences. Felipe Pregnolatto and Pedro Henrique Fernandes explained to parents that, according to recent research, there are many reasons why students “cheat”: ranging from family pressure, a lack of understanding about the academic honesty policy, and even youth-related issues tied to rebellion.
The lecture also aimed to reinforce the power of the collective, exploring the role of the Beacon Community, composed of teachers, families, and students, in the process of forming more honest citizens and students. Considering the profile of the IB student, which includes an individual with principles, we detailed the punishments provided by Beacon and the IB itself, according to the severity and type of dishonesty.
The coordinators concluded the meeting by warning about the misuse of Artificial Intelligence, showing that there are already processes and systems in place within the
