A visit to Cientec Park complements the interdisciplinary study of the 6th grade
The 6th-grade students (Y6) went to the USP’s Science and Technology Park (Cientec), where they were able to sharpen their eyes on the different ecosystems that make up our planet.
In the classroom, during the Global Context “Orientation Space and Time”, the students investigated the earth’s inner layers during Science classes. The work was complementary to the study of the lithosphere and tectonic plates conducted in Geography classes during the Global Context “Scientific and Technical Innovation”.
The purpose of the Field Trip was for the students to broaden their background knowledge by visiting the Soil Formation Room and the Geophysics Room. In the first one, they could review what they learned in school about rock and minerals and recall the formation and cycle of rocks. In addition, they learned about soil formation and development through experiments, sensory activities, and models. In the Geophysics Space, they saw how a seismograph works and were able to discuss the importance of this equipment for understanding the structure of our planet.
After returning to school, during Geography classes, all the students from the 6th grade wrote a report containing records about what they observed and learned during the Field Trip.
The visit was an excellent opportunity for the students to deepen their knowledge, establish relationships, and compound the investigations started in the classroom through interdisciplinary work.
