The 7th-grade classes (Y7) conducted an action to honor female authors who have accomplished great feats in the history of literature. During Portuguese and English classes, as part of the IB Global Context “Personal and Cultural Expression”, the students were divided into groups and researched renowned national and international female writers who impacted society in their times.
Aiming to honor International Women’s Day, the students were invited to create a project that addressed the theme. They then decided to design posters with the phrases “Procurada” and “Wanted”, inserting pictures of some female authors who did not receive recognition in their lifetime for their great achievements.
The students also created a website, where they gathered and published all the research done by the working groups, such as the biographies and curiosities about the authors studied. Through a QR code made available on the posters, visitors and those curious about the theme, in the Campus Unit, will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the subject by being directed to the page designed by Y7.
One of the authors researched was Emily Dickinson, an important American poet. Although her work was only recognized after her death, her texts are invaluable, serving as a basis for the production of modern poetry. Another great name is that of the Brazilian artist Patrícia Rehder Galvão or, as she is better known, Pagu, whose artistic production is of immeasurable value to Brazilian history. Besides being a great writer, with a great influence on literature, journalism, and culture in general, Pagu was an important figure in opposition to the government during the military dictatorship.
The students were very excited to see the repercussion of their work. The posters were, in fact, a creative way to instigate the curiosity of the community that circulates around the school, as well as a powerful way to spread the literary works of these authors who are so important in world literature.
