In “Landscapes” Unit of Inquiry, 4th grade (Y4), students learned to describe and differentiate landscapes from reliefs, analyse how rivers are formed, understand how natural events transform landscapes and research how economic activities impact rural and urban landscapes.
Through a repertoire of travel itineraries, the children researched destinations and talked about personal experiences to share with the classmates. In Portuguese classes, as they were learning about textual genre types, they had the opportunity to explore this one more: travel and tour itinerary.
In the beginning, students only had international tourist destinations they have already been to. Then, the teachers decided to introduce them to a huge diversity of beautiful Brazilian landscapes, mostly unknown. So, each one chose a city and got challenged to write a travel itinerary about the chosen place. To do so, they had to understand how to structure an interesting and cohesive tourist itinerary, besides presenting tourist attractions in a confusing way.
In EdTech classes, following the scripts already written and revised, the students were challenged to produce a flyer on Canva. Through this production, they developed skills in Graphic Design, formatting, information organization and image processing. Students were free to produce their own flyers, using the repertoire acquired in previous classes.
All projects were published in Padlet. That way, Y4 groups were able to share their productions and access their classmates’ projects to, who knows, use them in the future on their own travels.
