Over the course of a week, Lara N., a Year 11 student i, participated in the pilot project of the Sírio-Libanês Faculty of Medicine for high school students. The initiative offers an immersive introduction to the medical program, with hands-on activities and the opportunity to explore the college’s facilities.
“The Medical Summer School is one of those opportunities that, when they arise, should be seized without hesitation. This was one of the lessons from Professor Liao Yu Chieh, CFP®, coordinator at FSL, with whom we had the privilege of speaking during the week.”
The group of students took both theoretical and practical classes, which are part of the medical curriculum. They also had the chance to meet and interact with professionals from various areas of medicine. For Lara, one of the highlights of the experience was the anatomy classes and getting to know advanced technological tools such as the Sectra Table, which generates a 3D virtual image of the human body.
Another memorable moment was the visit to the hospital’s Integrative Care Center, which stands out for its humanized approach to medical care. As part of the program, the students participated in a Tai Chi session led by Dr. Plínio Cutait, coordinator of the center. In addition to the practice, the activity offered reflections on the importance of emotional balance in Medicine and the human impact of the profession in everyday life.
“The Summer School was a unique and transformative experience for our high school team, and it introduced us to a field that was very different from what we had imagined. I’m sure the same care with which the Sírio-Libanês Faculty welcomed us will be experienced by future medical students as well.”
