Y5 welcome Ful’ni-O indigenous representatives

In the Cultural Diversity Research Unit, Year 5 students welcomed two representatives from the Ful’ni-O indigenous village in Pernambuco. It was an important experience for investigating the cultures of indigenous peoples, where the students could experience dances, songs, and even learn a bit of the Yathe language spoken by the Ful’ni-O. Additionally, the students asked the indigenous representatives questions about religion, habits, and festivities with the aim of understanding both the specifics of this community and the importance of valuing the indigenous cultures that make up Brazilian society, which is marked by multiculturalism. Through contact and experiences with representatives of different cultural communities, students can develop principles of respect and appreciation for diversity, becoming advocates for human rights, which include the right to culture, religion, and the protection of ethno-cultural minorities. In this way, the school fulfills its social role through ethical education and the appreciation of Brazil’s cultural diversity.
