The G5 students (4 to 5 years old) had the opportunity to explore the incredible world of the human body on a visit to Museu Catavento in São Paulo. Before delving deeper into the topic, they began with the “kick-off” of the Unit of Inquiry “Living Bodies,” presenting the hypotheses that they had about the human body.
The museum was chosen for the field trip because it has an area called “Life” that offers many materials and experiences about Brazilian biomes, classifications of living beings, curiosities about the animal world, and, being the focus of the unit, an area about the human body, thus creating an investigative environment for the children.
The classes carried out various activities to learn about the particularities of our organism. One of the most significant activities was related to the large intestine, in which they entered a structure that represented the interior of the organ and exited through the other end, simulating the process of digestion. Another fun and stimulating moment was the visit to the interactive environment with different smells, which encouraged sensory exploration.
After the field trip, the children shared their experiences and talked about what they learned. They looked at the photos taken during the visit and drew their favorite parts of the human body.
Now, the classes are deepening their investigations about the human body, receiving visits from family members – doctors, dentists, osteopaths, nutritionists, among other professionals – who share their knowledge with the class. Additionally, the children have been presenting their research done at home to their classmates, promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing in the classroom.
