G6 visits Pinacoteca de São Paulo

By Brayan Felippe

The G6 children (5 to 6 years old) visited the Pinacoteca as part of the Unit of Inquiry “Art is Everywhere” to observe different forms of artistic expression that were studied in class.

Before going there, the classes were asked to research in which ways it is possible to express feelings and creativity through art. Initially, the goal was to encourage the students to appreciate works of art and then to put into practice some techniques used by artists in their work.

Upon arriving at the museum, the children observed the architecture of the building – which is also a form of artistic manifestation – and were encouraged to compare how it looked before the renovation and how it looked when it was finished.

Throughout the visit, the children reflected on the fact that the same work of art can have different interpretations, that is, the same creation can provoke different feelings in each person. Therefore, they could advance their thinking and understand that art goes far beyond the visual arts represented in that space and in those works. Other forms of expression such as music, theater, and photography, among others, also reveal feelings.

This Field Trip was a great trigger to sharpen the students’ curiosity and motivate them to produce their own work.

With the expansion and enrichment of knowledge, the children have developed a critical eye for appreciating the works of art and their various forms of expression, and will be encouraged, thus continuing the study, to express themselves through drama and music.
