The second grade (Y2) teachers used Earth Day to reflect on the Unit of Care ‘Rights and Responsibilities’ and start thinking about the future of the planet. To do so, the students watched a video about a girl who shows that we are not protecting the environment.
The idea was to reflect on what Earth Days represents and think about different ways to protect the environment. The teachers invited the students to access the website Padlet and explained that it works like an online bulletin board where everyone can share their ideas. Besides sharing their thoughts and pictures, the students had the opportunity to comment on colleagues’ posts.
A very interesting point was the students’ engagement in the activities. They sent pictures of themselves watering the plants at home, recycling, and making a worm farm. They accomplished the task in the morning, and in the afternoon, they discussed all the topics previously addressed during the online class.
According to the students, ‘If we don’t take care of our planet, we will have to move to another!’
