The new group from the “Projeto Jatobá” started classes in the second week of the academic year with 13 students, ten being girls and three, boys. The students were selected from three public schools in the west zone of São Paulo. They continue attending regular school hours, and then they come to Beacon.
The project lasts one year with an intensive English course at the Campus in Vila Leopoldina, from Monday through Thursday, along with reinforcement classes of Math and Portuguese on Fridays, which is shared with the English course. As of 2019, some fun workshops will be available to foster more fluid development so as not overload students with technical content.
At the end of the program, the two best-performing students will receive a scholarship to attend Beacon until the completion of High School. The intensive English study aims to prepare students for bilingual education and the reinforcement classes to help them level their knowledge according to Beacon’s curriculum standards. Still thinking of the student’s well-being, we will offer psychological counseling in October both for candidates who will not receive the scholarship and for those who will attend the school.
The initiative of the social project began with the sponsorship of some of the Beacon’s parents and is in its second edition. With an increased demand of families who want to encourage and contribute with the “Projeto Jatobá”, a non-profit organization is foreseen to receive donations and thus increase the possibility of there being more scholarships for candidates.
