The recognition as an IB World School highlights our commitment to offering an international education to form open-minded citizens who are able to face the challenges of the 21st century and contribute to the transformation of society. International education is also promoted through experiences abroad and events that seek to develop intercultural sensitivity, not only in students, but throughout our school community.
Beacon offers the three IB programs: The Primary Years Programme | PYP, for Early Childhood Education and Elementary School; the Middle Years Programme | MYP, for Middle School; and the Diploma Programme | DP, for High School students.
Saiba maisAs a school that recognizes its Brazilian identity, Beacon integrates the IB programs into the national curriculum and thus contributes to the formation of individuals capable of understanding, acting, and transforming the contexts in which they live. Brazilian Language and Literature, History and Geography of Brazil and manifestations of our culture have a fundamental place in the curriculum at all levels. The understanding of the country and the strengthening of identity ties also occur through experiences in field studies and trips, which provide immersion and access to history, experiences, and local issues in a country as continental as Brazil. Beacon promotes learning experiences in Portuguese and English, recognizing both languages as means of instruction, communication, and the development of the student's identity, from Early Childhood to High School. Bilingualism strengthens students' creative potential and their awareness of the contexts in which languages are spoken. And from the age of 10, students begin studying Spanish as a foreign language with the aim of starting High School fluent in three languages.
At Beacon, inquiry is the curriculum's guiding pedagogical approach. It is through inquiry that students explore, question, experiment, play, reflect, research, and apply their knowledge and conceptual understanding of the world to solve problems.
By being agents of their own learning, students have a ,b>voice, choice, and ownership over their learning journey. Relationships between teachers and students are based on mutual respect, active listening, dialog, and collaboration. Students develop self-confidence to take responsibility for their learning, make choices, and reflect on their consequences, express their opinions, ask questions, communicate their understandings of the world, construct new meanings, and contribute to the learning of the whole school community. We aim to train students who are inquiring, knowledgeable, critical, communicative, caring, principled, open-minded, courageous, balanced, and reflective.

At Beacon, we believe that the school is a place of continuous learning, where educators are constantly developing. We support the professional development of our pedagogical, operational, and administrative teams through regular collaborative meetings, weekly periods dedicated to professional development, and access to national and international courses and workshops.
We recognize the significant impact that a well-prepared educator can have on a student’s life. Therefore, Beacon promotes initiatives aimed at fostering a pleasant, intellectually stimulating and respectful work environment.
At Beacon, diversity is recognized and valued. The interaction among individuals from diverse social backgrounds, personal and cultural experiences, as well as contact with a plurality of thoughts, customs, ways of life, and expression provide a rich environment for learning opportunities.
The school is committed to developing and promoting affirmative practices in favor of racial and social equity, thus contributing to the development of open-minded students and a diverse and inclusive community, where students, teachers, staff, and families feel safe and willing to develop a strong sense of belonging. This vision is also reflected in the pursuit of forming professional teams with ethnic and social diversity and the integration of scholarship students. Thus, as an integral part of the curriculum, the school develops activities aimed at mitigating any forms of discrimination and intolerance.
The Beacon Institute was founded in 2023 to expand on the achievements of Projeto Jatobá, created in 2016. The Institute is committed to developing and promoting diversity practices, contributing to the construction of a more inclusive community. Constituted as an independent legal entity, its actions are funded by donations from members of the Beacon community.
